Recently we’ve been delivering Future Places Toolkit, collaborating with communities to imagine the future of their local high streets. In September we worked with urban designers and architects Stride Treglown, Cowshed Communication, and Caerphilly County Borough Council to engage people creatively with the Caerphilly Town 2035 Placemaking Plan, at the inaugural Festival of Ideas. It was great to use our bespoke Augmented Reality (AR) software to bring people’s ideas to life, live and in the very place that changes are being planned for. We had some really constructive, in-depth conversations with local residents of all ages. Together they co-designed a range of inventive ideas for ways to improve their high street and got to see them appear immediately around them in 3D, illustrated live by our artist, Sam Steer (http://samsteer.co.uk/). Using immersive audio, people also got to hear what the top of Cardiff Road could sound like in the 2035 they imagined. Thanks to all the participants for contributing their ideas and to our partners on this creative engagement project. Here’s an AR tour of community members' visions for Caerphilly high street in future.
